Cml and pregnancy

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any replies to help me.

so I decided a while back to plan a pregnancy after being undetectable for a few years I had a blip in which it became detectable again in march and April the result was 0.00022

i found out I was pregnant in may and have been off treatment for about 5 weeks or so and latest result was 0.0089

now unfortunately I am terrible once numbers get to 0.00 etc and struggle to see the difference in size of numbers so what I'm saying is is there a big difference between 0.00021 and 0.0089 ?

i have always struggled with this should have listened more in school.

a bit of background aged 33 diagnosed in 2010 was on nilotinib

thanks xxx

Hi Hannah,

Congratualtions! Fertility and CML is complicated, as you know. For us guys it’s a whole lot easier and even then not always simple.

It’s worrying when someone newly diagnosed finds out they’re pregnant. But clearly this isn’t you. So I’m going to do something I frequently do and turn percentages into real numbers.

0.00021% means 21 in a 10 million.

0.0089% means 89 in a million

Actualy, there’s very little difference in those numbers. It’s statistically insignificant. And that’s before we get into the number of assays in a given test, or other bits and bobs. Actually I am not sure I would trust a test that thinks it can identify one in 10 million.

You’re doing great.

EDIT: if you mean a pure decimal, rather than a percent my figures change to 21 in one hundred thousand, and 890 in one hundred thousand. But my point stands. It’s fine. At absolute worst, you are around an MR4 figure and that’s great. Keep an eye on things of course but you’re doing just fine and as well as can be.

David.

Hi david

thanks that has really helped! I think when it is turned into real numbers it's easier to understand we can all grasp the concept of 89 in a million! but when they are in percentages I can't tell the difference other than they appear to be low numbers

wish me luck on my crazy venture haha!

i may need your help again thanks so much

Hi, When pregnant, especially in the first trimester, it is safest to not take anything, any drug, as the developing baby could be affected. Be especially careful. Check with your physician.    Gitel, who is old and has seen a lot.

Dear Hannah,

I would like to wish you a good luck. I am 27 years old and I was diagnosed 3 months ago. I as well wish to have a family sometime in the future. Please keep us updated.

Best,
