Pcr @12 months

Hi everyone ,i am little worried my pcr at 12 months is 1.108 %.i was on tasigna for 9 months and after that i'm on imatinib(veenat)

Hi VIjay,

Please can you give a little more detail on your diagnosis and treatment and hopefully someone will be able to help. The most useful information would be:

Any other PCR results you have from earlier in your treatment than your 12 month result, ideally starting from when you were diagnosed.

The reason your medication changed from Tasigna to Imatinib.

Your imatinib dose (most commonly 400mg/day)

Any other blood test results you have.

1% is not a bad place to be - many people get lower than that at 12 months, but many don't and do very well in the long term. I was 0.6% at 12 months and have now been PCR undetectable for nearly 9 years.

Thanks sir,my pcr@3months was
4.15 ,pcr@6months was 1.77 and pcr@12months is 1.108%

Hi Vijay, Alastair asks really good questions which will help us understand better.

After almost a year, I was at 1.06% (I had no IS standardised result then though) and am now at around MR4.5, so 0.004% or so. So while it would be good to understand more of your CML history some people do just respond slower than others, but get there in the end!

David.

Switched from tasigna to imatinib due to cost consideration.i will update my all report once i reach my room.

Hi Vijay,

Most important thing here is that despite the change in medication the trend in BCR-ABL measured by PCR is still downwards. The reduction in the last three months shows that Imatinib is being effective against the CML. I don't think there is anything I'd worry about in any of the other results. As David and I have both said we were not as low as we would have liked at 12 months but are both doing fine now, many years later. When is your next test due? As long as your PCR % is still going down I think you are most likely OK.

In UK the likely timescale would be to have the next PCR test would be in September - 3 months after your last one. That would be long enough to see a further drop in BCR-ABL or to identify a problem if it is not reducing. It would also hopefully help you be more confident that the treatment is really working. I understand that in other countries practice and financial constraints make testing timescales different. As I said before the number is still reducing, so my best guess is that it will continue to do so, and I hope we have been able to reduce your worries at least.
